Gain Levels

Don't force sounds into the recording by boosting the gain. Increase the gain until the noise isn't heard. Don't change the gain levels without making a note.

ambient recordings

aim for -12db, but don't force the sound into the recording as you introduce noise

sound effects

between -6db and -3db

General Settings

• use wav, with a 24 bit depth and 96kHz for games and films, use 48kHz for video
• don't use phantom power, unless the mic needs it
• don't use LO/HI cut, compressor or limiter, use post-production to edit
