Dukkha
Modified 2023-11-06
- Sanskrit word for suffering
- Dukkha gets born of attachments, as they keep us from living a life that is actually fulfilling.
- suffering comes from the attachment of the situation, or what you expect from it
- becoming free from Dukkha is letting go from the attachment
Buddha discovered that every human being is entitled to:
- dukkha as it's a cosmic condition
- death
It's kinda bleak, but explains why dukkha or suffering needs to be taken seriously. More and more people are depressed, anxious and addicted. We have lost sight where happiness and peace comes from. There will be always suffering, even with success, when there's attachment. Attachment, to losing it all. The process of grief, is really the process of dropping the attachment.
The easiest antitode to dukkha is dharma (duty), because sometimes losing attachment is not correct or easy, while developing a duty can help the fight despite the suffering.
